Santona - Loredo Subfluvial Water Tunnel, Spain.
Currently under construction, the 1.5 km, 4.3 m diameter EPB TBM driven tunnel was originally designed with steel reinforcement cages in the segments. Contractors Acciona and designers Ingemey redesigned the segmental lining using EPC’s synthetic fibre reinforcement system. The new segment design reduced production times nearly 50% and reduced overall ring costs by 40%.
